Joel Salinas publishes Leadership in Change twice a week as is the co-founder of Cozora.org. After rewriting one particular draft four times, he realized something had gone wrong. He couldn’t see it objectively anymore.

The fifth version had corporate phrases he would never consciously choose. They crept in through the rewrites, one small compromise at a time. Voice drifts when you’re too close to your own work.

He needed something that could read the draft fresh, as if it had never seen it before. Something that wouldn’t protect his feelings or soften what needed to be said. The Red Pen Review was built to be the outside editor he couldn’t be for his own content.

Enjoy.

Problem This Skill Solves

Writers lose objectivity on their own drafts after multiple rewrites. Voice drifts into generic language, blind spots build up, and the piece that gets published is often the fifth version, not the best version. You need an editor who hasn’t read any of the previous drafts.
